PETE'S NONPUNITIVE LETTER OF CAUTION
A NONPUNITIVE LETTER OF CAUTION, or NIPLOC, is a written form of censure. The nonpunitive part indicates that the letter is not a punishment, but rather is issued to remedy a deficiency in a service member's conduct, judgement, or performance of duty. Since NIPLOCs are not part of a service member's permanent record, Commanding Officers utilize these as the last stop before delivering more drastic measures. The letter is a wake-up call to either shape up or prepare to ship out!
